Sounia Consults is a newly launched decoloniality-centered curatorial practice founded by Sounia Khadraoui-Johnson, a scholar and researcher working at the intersection of visual culture, representation, and critical discourse. The consultancy is dedicated to the development, management, and representation of artists from across the African diaspora, while also fostering projects with South Asian artists whose practices engage questions of history, identity, memory, and cultural inheritance. Working across geographic and disciplinary boundaries, Sounia Consults champions artists whose work interrogates the enduring legacies of colonialism and advances more expansive forms of cultural representation.

The consultancy is further strengthened through collaboration with Esther Fernández, PhD, a Madrid-based literary historian and cultural critic who has held tenure-track appointments at Sarah Lawrence College and Rice University and has taught at Cornell University. Together, Sounia and Esther integrate cross-disciplinary research methodologies to advance projects grounded in conceptual rigor, decolonial inquiry, and nuanced representational strategies.

This curatorial vision is informed by Sounia's own experience as a member of the North African diaspora. It reflects a commitment to documenting and amplifying the work of artists whose lives and practices have been shaped by the historical and ongoing afterlives of colonialism, while creating spaces for critical dialogue across the African diaspora, South Asia, and other interconnected postcolonial contexts.
